Master these top 3 to be the best you can be!

Becoming the best you can be revolves around 3 key factors. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or what sport(s) you play, these three are fundamentals to enhanced sports performance. None of these three should come as a surprise, however, it is the simplest things which are overlooked in the quest to find the magic pill for enhanced performance.

  1. Sleep! Sleep is key. 8 hours a night. If you don’t sleep, your bodies do not recover. An body which is not recovered is a body which is unable to perform to its optimal ability. Lack of sleep leads to hormone imbalances and a slew of other issues which inhibit performance in school, and on the field of play. Studies have shown that injury rates also increase dramatically with each hour of sleep less than 8 hours a night that is lost. In today’s technology age, it is tough to put down our devices and stay away from TV but these devices disrupt out sleep. Putting devices away and not watching TV for an hour before bedtime is optimal to making sure you get the best nights sleep you can.
  2. Nutrition! Eat and eat high quality, non processed foods. Food quality is key to athletic performance. Eating a diet full of processed foods is a surefire way to not perform at your best in school or the field of play. The focus should be on meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, etc. Choose foods with an expiration date over boxed and packaged foods. Look at the ingredients label, more than 5 ingredients, and it should not go in your mouth. If you are serious about being the best you can be, it starts with what goes into your mouth. In today’s fast paced world and going from one practice to another, nutrition gets lost in the wayside, and it is easy to give in to the ease of fast food, however, this is a detriment to overall health and overall performance. If you are on the go and need help with preparing healthy and delicious foods for yourself or your young athlete, there is a in house food delivery service providing individual meals, meal plans and family size meals which you can pick up at Parisi.  The food is healthy, delicious, and focused on providing the most optimal ingredients. 3. Proper Training. It is easy to get lost in the mindset that in order to excel at a sport you must play that sport as much as possible. Early sports specificity is one of the fastest ways to plateau at your sport. Sports specific training also leads to overuse injuries and player burn out. Playing as many sports as possible, and training in a program focused on overall athletic development, like the program offered here at Parisi Speed School of RI, is the best way to maximize your athletic potential and your continued progress as a athlete in your sport of choice. Many programs offer sports training and take a strength focused approach while ignoring some of the fundamental mechanics of athleticism. Yes, this will make a stronger athlete, but athleticism involves more than strength. Speed, agility, stamina, endurance are all factors to. Focusing on one parameter of athleticism will not make you a better overall athlete in your sport or any sport.
